Virupaksha Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in the city of Hampi in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It is dedicated to Virupaksha, a form of Lord Shiva in Hinduism. It is a part of the ‘Group of Monuments at Hampi’ which is aUNESCO World Heritage Site. The Virupaksha temple was built by Lakkan Dandesha, who was a chieftain under the popular Vijayanagara empire which ruled in Karnataka between 14th and 17th centuries AD.
